Window Washing FAQs

When should windows be washed to look their best? If you live where it is hot, make certain to wash the windows in the shade. the sun is too hot and will dry up your window washing solution before you will have a chance to squeegee it off. Windows should also be cleaned every Spring and Fall to keep you home windows looking good year round. Special thanks to Ben at for providing us this insight.

Window cleaning prices has several variables that go into how much should be charged. First it the location of your town, city, or even your state. If you live in New York or California, prepare to pay almost double other areas of the country pay. They have higher cost of living wages plus higher insurance rates. Typically window cleaning companies will charge on a per window pane basis. You can expect to be charged $6 to $10 per pane to clean it both inside and outside. Second floor windows obviously will be higher because more time and ladders are involved to complete the task at hand. Thanks to Jeremiah from South Mountain Window Cleaning for providing us with this insight.

Commercial window cleaning is different than residential for many reasons. Typically a home will get windows cleaned one or two times a year, while a commercial property will get them cleaned anywhere from weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or even quarterly. The higher the frequency, the lower your cost will be per service. Typical commercial windows will be charged about $2-$4 per pane for outside windows, and $1 to $3 per pane for inside windows. Desiree from America's Best Window Cleaning has provided us with this knowledge.

High rise windows are the most challenging windows there are to clean, so how often do they get cleaned? This really depends on the owner of the building, the management company, and obviously the budget. Most commercial buildings will be cleaned 1 or 2 times per year on the outside, and once per year inside. High rise condominiums have residents living in them, so they get their windows cleaned a little more often; 3 to 4 times per year. This answer is courtesy of Steve from Professional Window Cleaning.

Is there a best time of day to clean windows? Does the sunlight affect the window washing process? Let's dig into when windows should be washed and let an expert enlighten us on the mater.

Washing windows in direct sunlight is an extremely difficult task even for trained pros, so if you are planning to clean them yourself, try to clean your windows in the shade as much as possible. The draw back is that it is difficult to see streaks if the sun is not shining on the window, so you may have to go back and re-clean if you missed something.
